Tenafly 3/4 Race Series Update

After five races (just two to go!), the rankings are getting tight. The Watermelon Crit made for several major shifts in the Cat 4's ranking, including Nina's successful takeover of the jersey from Carol, and Betty's absence in the 123 field allowed Emma, Liz & Stephanie to all move up a spot, moving Betty back to 4th.

The next race up is the Lou Maltese in Central Park on July 9. It's a cat 3/4 women's race, and yes, it is very early in the morning. How much do you want it? Details can be found at CRCA.net

And the last race of the series will be the Union Vale Road Race in Poughkeepsie on July 17.

Details yet to come on the end of season BBQ hosted by the Tenafly Bicycle Workshop, but you won't want to miss it!

FBF Summer Solstice

I switched fields, was dropped all too quickly, but then again, so was pretty much everyone else—by the time the lead six of the 123 field lapped me, there was no pack remaining.

So my game, my rules. Half a point for Floyd and his henchman, Mother Nature of the wind.

Floyd, week 6 (or 7)

Floyd tried very hard to gain points last night—but I shimmied on by as the boys fell over beside me. Thank Anne-Marie for jinxing the field by talking about how safe things had been for the previous five weeks. Floyd couldn't just let that one get by.

So, I escaped the crashes, made it there and back in one piece, and finished with the field...so after six weeks, I'm taking a slim lead...

Liz 3: Floyd 2: Brooklyn 2.5

Except then I remembered that two Tuesdays ago I didn't get there on time to race. Which means this was actually week 7, and I have to give another point to Brooklyn. Damn.

Brooklyn holds onto the lead for yet another week...

Watermelon Crit

Disappointing in that only five women showed up for the W123 race, all of us to be promptly schooled by Heather Labance.

This race really should be better attended—it's a nice, safe course, not at all technical, not that far from the city (on the Rutgers campus), accessible by NJTransit, and we took home a watermelon, a coconut and a loofah as part of our winnings. No pie though—you have to win for pie...

Earlier in the morning, Caroline raced the W4 race against 18 other riders and took sixth—not too shabby for her first crit!

Floyd Bennet Field Tuesdays update

When we last left our intrepid racer, the standings were as follows:
Liz 1: Floyd 2: Brooklyn 2.5

In other words....
week 1—finished with the 3/4 field, but cracked my fork on Flatbush on the way home. 1 point Liz, 1 point Brooklyn.
week 2—dropped like a stone. Watched T's Kryserium get crushed by car on ride to race. 1 point Floyd, .5 point Brooklyn.
week 3—dropped like a slightly smaller stone. Upside, all equipment and body survive in one piece. 1 point Floyd.
week 4—have front wheel taken out before getting to race. 1 point Brooklyn.
week 5—finished with the 3/4 field, there and home in one piece. 1 point Liz.

Things are looking up!

ESG qualifier

Last year, there were 30-odd girls (yes, and they were odd girls, too) in the race to qualify for the Empire State Games. I got in the break, and then successfully introduced my chin to the pavement and took myself out of contention. I was going to be redeemed.

To my pleasure and dismay, there was light rain Saturday morning and it was the day before the Liberty Classic—ten of us lined up to race this year. Long story short, halfway though the race, we broke the field in half and on the last lap, Karen Ulrich's attack on the hill knocked off Caroline, leaving just me, Hannah Long (Metro) & Cindy Ma (Metro). Karen, Hannah and I battled out the sprint, with Karen taking it.

TBW Women's Series Results, part 4

After four races (and rocking the Flanders TT just behind teammate Mara Miller), Betty Tyrell has got a solid lead in the Cat 3 field, but Carol and Nina are slugging it out in the Cat 4 division. Missing a single race can cost you at this point!

Next race is the Firecracker Crit—although we're having some trouble getting information on it! If anyone has the dirt, let Emma know at emma (at) getfitnyc.com. Thanks, chickies!
